When: Late August to early June (students participating in the Intensive Swedish Summer program must arrive in late July).
Units: Students are required to take the equivalent of 15 CSU units per semester.
Cost: Students pay the same tuition for CSU IP Sweden as the tuition paid for their home CSU campus. For more information on costs, including accommodations, travel and other expenses, see the Budget Sheet.
Eligibility Requirements: Minimum 2.75 GPA; Students must have junior status, and be enrolled at a CSU campus no later than spring term prior to departure, or eligible to enter from a community college by fall term of the program start date. Graduate students are not eligible.
Course Prerequisites: Completion of at least 30 semester units (45 quarter units) in Communications and Media Studies including: two courses in public relations, strategic communications or organizational communication, and two courses in research design/methodology, qualitative/quantitative research, statistics, or ethnography.
The CSU IP Sweden program is affiliated with Uppsala University. Founded in 1477, Uppsala is the oldest of Sweden’s six universities and is internationally famous for its leadership in research. The university enrolls over 25,000 students in a wide variety of disciplines.
The CSU IP Sweden Media and Communications Studies program is an advanced program and is meant for students who wish to pursue a career in PR, Media, Communications or related fields. Students selected to participate must have taken at least 30 semester units in Media and Communication Studies at the time of application. (See the Course Prerequisites listed above for specific course requirements).
Students are fully integrated into Uppsala’s academic programs and take courses taught in English. Students are required to take a Swedish language course either in August (before the first semester begins) or during the fall semester. During the year, students take a prescribed list of advanced Media and Communication courses (offered in sequence) from the Department of Informatics and Media found here Sweden 2016-17 Course List- Media and Comm. Note that course offerings are subject to change and may not be offered during the year of intended study.
Uppsala is the 4th largest city in Sweden and is located approximately 50 miles north of Stockholm. The city is rich in Scandinavian history, having been the country’s royal capital 1,500 years ago.
Housing is arranged prior to arrival in Sweden in coordination with Uppsala University. All students live in dormitories. Students must submit a housing application to reserve a room; more information will be provided by Uppsala University after acceptance.
