Program Highlights

City: Surrounded by beautiful hills of olive trees, Jaén is known as the World Capital of Olive Oil since the city is the biggest producer of the olive oil in the world. Locals refer the to the oil as "liquid gold".

University: The Universidad de Jaén ranks among the top five percent of universities in the world according to both the Center for World University Rankings and the Shanghai Rankings.

Academics: Earn Major, Minor, and General Education credit.

Tuition: Same tuition cost as home CSU campus.

Language of Instruction: English, Spanish

Special Notes: This program is not open to students with intermediate or advanced Spanish language abilities. These students should look into CSU IP programs in Granada or Madrid. Please contact your IP coordinator for details.


About the Universidad de Jaén

The University of Jaén boasts a top spot in all of Spain for international alumni satisfaction. Born of local schools going back to the 14th century, the University of Jaén is now a modern university with renovated facilities, newly constructed infrastructure, and quality teaching and research impact.

The CSU IP program is designed for students at the beginner level of Spanish and provides students with the opportunity to make rapid progress learning Spanish as well as providing a deeper understanding of the country and culture of Spain. Upon arrival, students take a placement exam to determine the level of Spanish they will be placed in for the fall semester. After the winter break, in late December/early January, students enroll in an brief intensive Spanish course which is required for all students. During the spring semester, students will continue their study of the Spanish language, but will also take elective courses such as Spanish literature, Spanish culture and society, and the economy of Spain. Students who have made sufficient progress in the Spanish language may be able to take one course in the Facultad during the spring semester.
